Homepage Articles Technology How to Automatically Create a Custom WordPress Snippet for Posts How to Automatically Create a Custom WordPress Snippet for Posts Posted: 2021-09-20 If you want to display a WordPress post excerpt on your homepage rather than the full text of each post, I have the plugin for you. It’s called Easy Custom Auto Extract. It automatically creates and displays post snippets on your homepage as well as search results and archive pages. It also allows you to customize the “read more” button. You might be thinking, “Can’t WordPress display an excerpt instead of the full post without using a plugin?” You are right, it is possible.

The problem is that the snippet has to be set on every post by inserting a “Read More” tag. If you have a lot of posts, editing them one by one to add the “Read More” tag will be a tedious and time-consuming job. Installing Easy Custom Auto Extract Plugin This plugin will not work if your theme uses a custom feature to display snippets. If you are unsure, ask the theme developer. There is no harm in installing the plugin and trying it out. Just be sure to uninstall it if it doesn’t work with your theme. Login to your WordPress admin panel. In the left Algeria WhatsApp Number navigation column, hover over the “Plugins” link and click the “Add New” link. Selecting one of the paragraph methods will create WordPress post snippets that end where your paragraphs end.

The characters method will create a WordPress snippet that ends after the word closest to your ‘Snippet Size’ setting. In the “Hello World” post snippet image above, I chose the “Character” snippet method and a character count of 200. So the snippet ends on the word “whelps” , because the 200 character limit falls in this word. NOTE: The character method will always stop at the end of an entire word. It will not display one word per part. So you won’t see something like “Cors…” when the line should read “Corsair”. There are also options to remove shortcode or HTML from snippets if you need them. This can be very useful depending on what your coding entails.
